MUMBAI UNDER ATTACK

currentopicscom

India, a principally Hindu country with great diversity, has not normally been seen as a hazardous destination for religious or foreign visitors. Although this Hindu heaven country has seen many thousand innocent people fall victim to terrorists, including some many people who were killed in a resounding strike in the north-east of the country earlier last year. It is unusual for foreigner and westerners to be attacked like this. Local hardcore insurgents, or militants loyal to extremists in Pakistan, are frequently responsible for high degree terrorist assault mounting in the country. But it is still murky whether either such groups might be responsible for the latest horrible strikes.

The sheer scale and mind exploding audacity of the assault were really staggering. Gangs of peace hating thugs, modernized with well-arms attacked two super deluxe luxury hotels, a nearby restaurant, a railway station and one big hospital. Heavy continuous Gunfire and rapid explosions rang through the bone marrow of Mumbai overnight on November 26th-27th 2008 and even through the next morning. More than 120 people were reported to have been killed in this wild attack. Several foreigners, including some from America, Japan, France and Britain, were among the dead. So were over a dozen policemen. And up to 100 hostages, including some selected American and British guests to India, were supposed to be held hostage inside a luxury hotel.

Even in a city and country with a forbidding black record of terrorist utter violence, these were body terrifying extraordinary vistas. The fiery attacks were started at around 10.30pm on November 26th, when gunmen started shelling and throwing numerous grenades at Mumbai’s chief railway station. National television footage showed two furious men shooting at random as they drove through nearby streets.

As the dawn broke, dark fumes with orange flames were rising from the domed roof of the Taj Mahal, the biggest spectacle of the India’s Empire. Navy and army commandos retaken the hotel’s floors and killed two extremists, a dribble of terrified employees, some with heavy wounds, continued to escape the building.

In the past nine months India has suffered from an epidemic of cruel Islamist militancy, with whooshing bomb-blasts in half a dozen prime cities, including Delhi, Bangalore and Jaipur. A home-grown Muslim extremist group, the Indian Mujahideen, has been liable for the extravagant assaults, in which over 120 people were likely to be killed. In a blood-chilling, 14-page admission of responsibility for the Delhi bombings, the Indian Mujahideen castigated the terrorism efforts of Mumbai’s police.

The stabbing by the Islamic terrorists appeared to be continuing, with the final toll feared to rise. The fact that the assault was coordinated across several highly sophisticated locations suggests a classy organization might be responsible for trouble and panic stirring.

Mainly, Al-Qaeda has often threatened to launch its power-packed anti-Hindu strikes in India to crush sentiments and feelings. In 2006 Arab terrorists belonging to the organization were thwarted in an attempt to set off series of deadly bombs in Goa. Among the central targets of the latest attacks was a Jewish religious centre in Mumbai which was reported to have been fired on by the gunmen. This shows the amount of hatred in the hearts of terrorists.

CONCLUSION:

Despite these bloody perturbing signs, Indian officials have so far resisted suggestions that Indian Muslims are being radicalized. Many submit positively to the observation of Bush that Muslims from India have not in general turned up to fight the infidels on the battlefields of Iraq. But this bustling grim attack on its people and sophisticated landmarks represents a determined and enormous test of Mumbai’s temperament and promising gestures. Mumbai’s assailants may have wished to aggravate a backlash against Muslim residents, which in turn would help to radicalize India’s vastly dispersed Muslim community. Even after the last of the Pakistan controlled fellow terrorists have been killed or captured, that is how they could still expect to win the game.
