Nikki Catsouras

Nikki Catsouras, died in a horrifying car crash in 2006. Days afterward, her father received an email with a picture of the bloody accident scene and the caption, “Woohoo! Hey daddy, I’m still alive.”Writes Jessica Bennett for Newsweek, “From the beginning, Nikki’s death had all the makings of a sensational story. She was gorgeous; it was Halloween, and she was driving a $90,000 sports car.” But why did the nine photographs leaked from the scene of her accident become a sick, twisted internet phenomenon?

California Highway Patrol apologized for the leaked picture of nikki catsouras accident; two CHP dispatchers were to blame. One man’s attorney said that he sent the images to relatives and friends “as a cautionary tale” to warn them of the dangers of the road. “Any young person that sees these photos and is goaded into driving more cautiously or less recklessly-that’s a public service.”

Its a case of breach of privacy gone to unimaginable porportions but still not objetionable under law. The story is very sad and tragic when Nikki Catsouras died as she met a horrible accident while driving Porsche 911 Carrera and crashed the vehicle into a concrete structure. The grisly images of the death of Nikki Catsouras found their way on the web only to be disseminated and forwarded by the mindless users.

The incident occurred in 2006 but Newsweek is carrying out the story in its May issue to document the emotional trauma which Catsouras family is going through and their crusade for “the need for America’s legal system to better protect privacy in the Internet age”.

The Newsweek writes about the photo  “an image so horrific we can’t print it in NEWSWEEK.” It is really a shame why we can’t let Nikki rest in peace and let the family move on with their lives instead of getting haunted by the “cyber-aggressors.” “Nikki’s sisters—Danielle, 18, Christiana, 16, and Kira, 10—have managed to avoid the photos, but live in fear that they’ll happen upon them.”
